The owners wanted the grass gone and a xeriscape-style front yard in its place. They had ideas of their own; the finished garden also carries trees and plantings they had not initially considered.
What the site was doing
The front beds were bare dirt with a scattering of newly placed ti plants, under a large oak that takes most of the light on that side of the house.
What we did
The lawn was lifted and the front was rebuilt as a planted bed rather than a grass panel: a curved mulch border sweeping around to the brick paver driveway, a foxtail palm for height, hot pink bougainvillea against the white wall, and a large white boulder set into the bed as an anchor.

How it stands now
It needs a fraction of the water a lawn did, and the bed line does the work the grass used to.
